Patients will need to come in for a general exam to make sure there are no cavities or gum issues that would become irritated or infected by teeth whitening products. Then, our team will clean the patient’s teeth to ensure that they are fully prepared for the whitening procedure.

Dr. Cochran will take impressions of your teeth—both upper and lower—and a custom mouthpiece will be created just for you. He will also provide you with a whitening gel that you will fill your mouthpiece with, and it is recommended that the mouthpiece be worn for a few hours every day.

For further information on how our team can help you maintain a healthy and bright smile, schedule an appointment with Dr. Cochran.

To restore a damaged area of your tooth, Dr. Cochran offers inlays and onlays to restore your tooth back to its normal function.

Inlays

When one of our patients suffers from a cavity that is too severe to treat with a filling, dental inlays will likely be used to treat the cavity. A dental inlay is placed in the tooth and will replace the enamel, and it does not extend over the edges of the tooth. After the patient has been numbed with a local anesthetic, Dr. Cochran will remove decay from the infected tooth, create an impression of that tooth, and send it off to a dental lab. The lab will manufacture a permanent inlay from composite resin or porcelain in a shade that matches the color of the rest of the tooth. Meanwhile, Dr. Cochran will provide the patient with a temporary inlay to prevent further pain and infection while the permanent one is being created.

Onlays

Compared to inlays, onlays act like a partial crown, and dentists typically opt to fit an onlay to their patient if they believe the tooth surface is too weak to endure a regular filling. After numbing the tooth, Dr. Cochran will clean out the cavity and create an impression of the infected tooth to manufacture the unique permanent onlay.

This process may require the patient to come in for two appointments; the first one to take the impression and place the temporary onlay, and the second one to replace the temporary onlay with the permanent mold roughly 7–10 days later. Dr. Cochran strongly recommends that his patients take good care of their temporary onlays since carelessness and poor dental hygiene can cause serious and painful side effects.

If you are interested in learning more about the ins-and-outs of inlays and onlays, feel free to schedule an appointment with our team at Cochran Family Dentistry.

There are a number of things that affect our teeth. For example, injury, gaps, and discoloration are just some issues that you may experience. Luckily, these issues can be treated with a dental bonding procedure.

To receive the resin, Dr. Cochran will need to create a rough surface on the tooth so the resin can hold. The dental resin will be applied in order to restore the tooth, whether it’s to fill in chips or cracks, cover discoloration, or fill in a gap between your teeth.

We welcome you to contact our office to discuss this treatment option.

For patients that have discoloration or an injured tooth, porcelain veneers may be a good option.

When receiving a veneer, a small part of the tooth will be removed to create enough room for the veneer. A bonding agent will be applied to the tooth and this will ensure that the veneer is secured. If you would like to discuss whether or not you would be a good candidate for porcelain veneers, feel free to contact Dr. Cochran.

There are a lot of issues that can affect our teeth, from discoloration to a chipped or cracked tooth. One of the ways to restore a tooth is by using a dental crown.

Dental crowns cover the visible area of a tooth and are used in many situations, including:

Treating discoloration

Supporting a dental bridge

Covering dental implants

Protecting a broken or cracked tooth

In the past, dental crowns could take weeks or even months to be created leaving you with a problematic tooth. At Dr. Cochran’s office, we are able to create a dental crown in just one appointment with the use of a method called CEREC, which stands for “chair-side economical restoration of esthetic ceramics.”

CEREC crowns offer our patients a comfortable and exact fitting dental crown that can be done on the same day. Feel free to contact us today to learn more.
